BIRDS co-organizes the Course “Compact Data Structures” during the Universidade da Coruña’s International Summer School 2018.
This three-week intensive course will take place from 30th July to 17th August, 2018 at A Coruña, Spain.
It will be taught by Dr Travis Gagie (Universidad Diego Portales, Chile) and Dr Nicola Prezza (Danish Technical University, Denmark). The course will follow Gonzalo Navarro’s recent text, “Compact Data Structures: A Practical Approach”, and will include some short homework assignments using Succinct Data Structure Library (SDSL).
The course has an academic value of 6 ECTS credits, and it has been recognised by Universidade da Coruña and dozens of other univerities around the world towards credit for their own degrees.
Fee and travel grants for students
Interested students should submit an online application form. Information about tuition fees is available here.
There exist a special group tuition fee (300 € per student). In addition, BIRDS will provide travel grants to all students enrolled in the course for covering travel and acommodation costs. Interested students please, contact BIRDS Project Coordinator (Susana Ladra) to know more about this, to apply for the group tuition fee. The deadline for this is 31st March 2018.
Universidade da Coruña has also published a call for applications for a scholarship programme. The deadline for this call is 30th April 2018. The programme offers scholarships to students coming from highly underrepresented low-income, lower-middle income or upper-middle income countries, divided according to GNI per capita, calculated using the World Bank Atlas method.
Research environment
During the days of the course, some high recognized researchers from the field, involved in BIRDS project, will be at A Coruña. Thus, it will be a perfect environment for advancing on lines of research related to the topic of the course.
Social programme
The whole month of August is full of concerts and other leisure activities in the city of A Coruña and the surrounding region. There will be around 300 events taking place this month, many of which with free access.
